Exterior Painting Preparation for a Professional Finish
The most important part of your paint project is professional exterior painting preparation to ensure the paint will take hold and last. We are skilled in painting the exteriors of wood, aluminum siding, vinyl, and stucco.
To make the process as smooth as possible, we break down paint project preparation into what we do - and what we need you to do.

Logistics
Communicate special instructions to us. Your family, home, and neighborhood may have unique needs.
We will discuss scheduling and estimate the number of days on the job. No one needs to be home. However, if doors are to be painted, we’ll need to arrange access.
ProTEK Painters offers 'Paint Now - Pay Later' financing if desired. Browse our FAQs for more details.
Personal Property and Pets
Please move your vehicles away from the house. Also, remove fragile or breakable items and personal possessions. We will move heavy items.
Trim trees and landscaping that lay against the siding. Remember to secure your pets for their health, our safety, and to protect the work being performed.

Exterior Surface Preparation
We bring tarps, drop cloths, and plastic sheeting to protect all work areas as stated in your proposal.
Our painters perform pressure washing, scraping, sanding, caulking, and agreed upon repairs. Repair may include light carpentry items such as fixing damaged siding and trim and sealing cracks.
When we pressure wash, we use a mild TSP/Bleach solution to remove loose dirt and mildew. All the paints we use are mildew-resistant. However, mildew is airborne and shady areas will always be susceptible to growth.
Next, we'll prime and paint.
Exterior Painting Process - Start to Finish
Begin by scheduling a free estimate consultation.
In most cases, you will receive your estimate the same day, if not on-the-spot. Once you let us know your agreement to move forward with your project, you can expect the work to start within thirty (30) days, weather permitting.
Within 2-3 weeks we’ll be contacting you to schedule the pressure washing and then 7-10 days after that, we arrive to start the exterior painting preparation and the painting itself, weather permitting.
Daily clean-up of the job site helps us prepare for the next day’s work and keeps your home's exterior tidy throughout the project.

When Exterior Painting is Completed
Upon completion of the job, we perform a final, thorough clean-up of the work site.
Then, we walk through the project with you to ensure your satisfaction - because we're not done until you say we're done.
Wait a week or so before washing windows. Use a mild soapy solution. Make sure your home is well ventilated, gutters are cleaned regularly, and shrubbery is not overgrown to help extend the longevity of your exterior paint work.
Because of the harsh Newton area weather, we recommend a self-inspection after 5-6 years to make sure there are no major issues. However, to maintain your home, a new exterior paint project should be taken on at the 7-8 year mark to avoid costly labor charges in the future.
Exterior painting preparation is often the most time-consuming, labor-intensive part of the project. But it's necessary so that your home's siding can do its job of protecting the inside.
