Exterior Painting Techniques You Probably Shouldn't Try at Home
Call it an occupational hazard, but unusual exterior painting techniques pique our curiosity. The outside of your house tells the world who you are.
It makes you want to come home.
It makes your friends want to come over.
Dig into the backstory behind each homeowner's exterior paint color choices. It turns out that for some, painting outside the lines is not just a way to express themselves; it's a chance to make a difference in other people's lives or honor something special to them.

Hello Kitty:
This Hello Kitty home in Shanghai, China is full of matching pink accessories on the inside too. Hello Kitty is the second highest-grossing franchise of all time at $80 billion in lifetime retail sales.
We'd suggest you meet with our color consultant before choosing your paint colors. But, no matter what, we'll paint your house the cat's meow.
The Spectrum:
When you really can’t decide which color you want, use them all!
Did you know that you see the visible spectrum every day and probably don't even realize it?
This house wants to make sure you do - from the bottom up - ROYGBIV. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
What color do we see best? Human eyes are most sensitive to light at a wavelength of 555 nanometers — a bright green.

Artist's Dream:
Located in New Jersey, this home was a fixer-upper on five acres picked up by Artist Ricky Boscarino in 1989. It's been a labor of love ever since.
Ricky says, "If I can provide inspiration for someone, then I say mission accomplished". Ricky has launched the Luna Parc Atelier Foundation, a non-profit with a mission to facilitate creativity in all people, especially youth, by demonstrating the creative process through hands-on activities.

Trench Coat Lining:
Did you know the original Burberry trench coat was designed to protect the military during the First World War?
The owner of this Burberry Plaid home in Norway aimed to create a gathering place for happy, art-loving, peace-on-earth people using this iconic fashion statement.
We can help you make your home a welcoming place for family and friends, too, without the plaid.

Street Art:
This is a picture of graffiti in Digbeth of Central Birmingham, England. Graffiti is, by definition, a defiant and public exhibition. It is illegal without the property owner's permission.
But some of these exterior painting techniques on city walls and subway cars are respected as bonafide artwork.

House Hunter:
This house hides unseen in Austin, Texas. It was painted in the style of the US Army’s Universal Camouflage Pattern.
If you are hunting for just the right color scheme for your home, and bitmap pixel camo is not your top choice, we can help you find a better resolution.

The Holstein:
Can you SPOT the theme of this unusually painted exterior? You might be thinking cows, but the South Wales owner painted it in tribute to the Disney film, 101 Dalmatians.
We don't make spots, or miss spots, at ProTEK Painters. And that's guaranteed.

The Dr. Seuss:
We went to Whoville to get this picture for you. It was there we learned that Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in 1904 in Springfield, MA only 1 1/2 hours west of Newton!
"Why fit in when you were born to stand out?", says Dr. Seuss. The actual photographer, Chad Miller, lives down the road from this home on Harmon Avenue in Winter Park, Florida.

Feeling Blue?
The paint color blue has lots of psychological benefits like creativity, productivity, safety, and serenity.
But, typically, an exterior paint color scheme is not one solid color. It has three parts: the main body, the trim (i.e. door and window trim, roofline, railings), and accents (i.e. door, shutters, light fixtures).

Polka Dots:
This exterior painting technique is called 'connecting the dots' and comes with a pretty neat story. It's part of the Heidelberg Project with a mission to improve the lives of people and neighborhoods through art.
You are free to take a polka-dotted stroll through the outdoor art exhibit at the 3600 block of Heidelberg in Detroit, Michigan any time, rain or shine.
